Three things that change a hire, a price, a buy, or a schedule this week. No sponsor.
1. Snappy and M&M, up to 6% on Sept 21
What: Snappy and M&M Manufacturing make the round pipe, fittings, and takeoffs on most residential duct jobs. Geary Pacific (updated Sept 1) and ACHR (Sept 2) both list them at up to 6% starting Sept 21, 2026.
So-what: A job you priced last month on last month's sheet will cost more in 13 days.
Now-what: Buy 30-60 days of what you actually burn. Stocking the warehouse "just in case" ties cash up in elbows.
2. Quotes still sitting on Sept 1-3 prices
What: These already hit: Bard service parts on Sept 1; OmegaFlex TracPipe (flexible gas pipe) 6% on Sept 1; Jones Stephens 5-15% by product group on Sept 3.
So-what: An August quote that is still open has the wrong cost in it.
Now-what: Pull those quotes this week. Reprice them or let them expire.
3. Outdoor HVAC GFCI after Sept 1
What: A GFCI cuts power if it thinks current is leaking to ground. Fine on a bathroom outlet. On a modern outdoor condenser or heat pump with an inverter compressor, a standard GFCI often trips for no real fault. The 2020 National Electrical Code (NEC 210.8(F)) required GFCI on those outdoor units. NFPA put a temporary exception on it. That exception ended Sept 1, 2026. HARDI (July 15): about 40 states are on the 2020 or 2023 NEC. These states deleted or rewrote 210.8(F) so HVAC is not in it: AR, CT, GA, IA, LA, MD, NH, NM, NC, OH, OK, SC, SD, TX, UT, VA. Still on 2017 or older, so this section does not apply yet: TN, WI, DC, KS, IN. Everywhere else, new outdoor AC and heat pump installs after Sept 1 may need GFCI. If you can get them, look for high-frequency GFCI or a Class C special-purpose GFCI listed to UL 943C. AHRI filed TIA 1924 to push the exception to 2028. ACCA backed that on Aug 19. It is not law yet.
So-what: In a state that did not carve HVAC out, a new outdoor install can fail inspection, or the unit can nuisance-trip after you leave. That is a callback.
Now-what: Look up your state's NEC edition and whether 210.8(F) was amended. Do not copy the shop next door.
